Backend developer
You build the part of kvitr that talks to other systems: the integrations that collect invoices, the jobs that keep collecting on their own and the API other tools build on.
What you will do
- Set up new integrations. A mailbox provider is one line in the catalog; a new family, such as a billing API or a portal, is a driver that knows how to test a connection and fetch invoices, plus its catalog entries and tests.
- Keep collection reliable at scale: bounded, idempotent jobs that never store an invoice twice, cursors that survive retries, and clear errors people can act on.
- Take care of security as a default: credentials encrypted at rest and decrypted only while collecting, every query scoped to one workspace, inputs validated at the boundary.
- Extend the REST API and the MCP endpoint that accountants’ tools and AI assistants use.
What you bring
- Strong TypeScript and Node.js. The codebase is Next.js (App Router) and React on Vercel, MongoDB Atlas with encrypted GridFS files, Better Auth, zod, Vitest.
- Experience with third-party APIs, tokens and OAuth, IMAP (we use imapflow and mailparser), browser automation with Playwright, transactional email with Resend, and reading PDFs in Node.
- A habit of writing things down plainly: the Guide and the code comments are part of the product.
- You care about idempotency, data isolation and failure modes more than about frameworks.

Accountant, EU
You support our customers and make the system smarter. Half the job is helping companies get their invoices right; the other half is turning what you know about EU accounting into rules kvitr applies on its own.
What you will do
- Support clients: onboarding, questions about invoices, VAT, reverse charge and reports, and what their accountant needs at year end.
- Make the system smarter: define how suppliers and invoices are classified, how VAT and cross-border purchases are handled, which reports accountants want and what the coming EU e-invoicing and digital reporting rules require.
- Write and maintain the user Guide so that explanations are correct and in plain language.
- Work with the developers on what to build next and check that it is right before it ships.
What you bring
- An accounting education and several years of experience with bookkeeping and VAT in one or more EU countries.
- Comfort with software and a wish to shape one, rather than only use it.
- Fluent English; Danish or another EU language is a plus.

Accountant, US
The same role for companies in the United States: support customers there and teach kvitr how US bookkeeping works.
What you will do
- Support US clients with their invoices, expense records, sales tax questions and what their CPA needs.
- Make the system smarter for US companies: vendor classification, sales and use tax, 1099 vendors, record-keeping rules and the exports US accounting tools expect.
- Write the US parts of the Guide and review new features before they ship.
What you bring
- An accounting education and several years of experience with US bookkeeping, tax and reporting, for example as a bookkeeper, controller or CPA.
- Experience with tools such as QuickBooks or Xero and with what auditors and the IRS ask for.
- Comfort with software and clear, plain writing.
